Thousand Oaks UMC has a long history of making faith real by showing compassion to our struggling neighbors, near and far. This congregation is dedicated to missions locally, nationally, and globally through acts of service, prayers, and financial gifts. We know this is how Jesus wants us to live... in loving community with one another.

The Harvest program at UMCTO has been providing healthy food to families who have insufficient food resources since 2012, distributing food to registered recipients on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings.  The emphasis remains on families with children but we also provide food to individuals.
Besides picking up food from local groceries, restaurants, coffee shops, and Ventura County Foodshare (of which we are a participating pantry), we also collect donations of produce via the Food Forward program.  Food Forward is a nonprofit organization that hosts volunteer-powered events to rescue fresh surplus produce from backyard fruit trees, orchards, and farmers markets that might otherwise go to waste.
To get an idea of the scope of UMCTO's pantry outreach ministry, below are recent statistics outlining numbers of participants and amounts of foodstuffs distributed:
Harvest Pantry May 2018:                                                                          Food Forward Donations to UMCTO 2017
Average Families/Clients served Per Week in May 2018:             118        Total Pounds Rec'd:  51,117.00
Average Children Served Per Week in May 2018:                      218         Market Value:  $88,432.41
Average Crates of Food Distributed Per Week in May 2018:      308
Average Pounds of Food Distributed Per Week in May 2018:    7700
Since inception, UMCTO's Harvest pantry has expanded with respect to sources of food, number of recipients, and volunteers in the program.  We have over twenty active UMCTO members participating in the program as volunteers and we have a number of volunteers from the community including several from Westlake Village UMC and St. Matthew's UMC in Newbury Park.
We always need and welcome new volunteers to help pick up donations and prepare food for distribution.
